People who work within the Geelong-based National Disability Insurance Scheme are being urged to speak out about what’s going on within the organisation.
The call comes from the opposition’s NDIS spokesman Bill Shorten, who is in Geelong today to launch what Labor is calling the “NDIS Failures” billboard campaign.
Mr Shorten claims the Federal Government is planning on cutting services.
“We think the people in the agency are doing a good job, but the leadership of the organisation and the Morrison government are putting a lot of pressure on people to cut benefits and services,” he said.
He told Geelong Broadcasters staff were being asked to introduce new forms of assessment which he said would make it more difficult for people to access even modest entitlements.
He said too many workers are on temporary contracts, and some service providers are over-charging people with disabilities.
He said the workers within the organisation are doing the best they can.
“We keep getting reports that they’re suffering job cuts or casualisation, privatisation,” Mr Shorten said.
“They being asked to implement instructions to cut services to participants and we want to get to the truth of the matter.”
